The History Savannah Cat

In 1986, a cat breeder named Judee Frank crossed a male serval owned by Suzi Woods with a Siamese domestic cat, and the very first Savannah was born (and named Savannah) on April 7, 1986. This new breed attracted the attention of Patrick Kelley, a cat breeder who was so enthusiastic about the Savannah that he worked hard towards establishing the new domestic breed and making it a part of The International Cat Association (TICA). He sought help from other serval breeders with his endeavors in developing the new breed. Finally, he grabbed the attention of a breeder by the name of Joyce Sroufe and she helped him to take the appropriate steps in gaining recognition for the new breed. They wrote the very first version of the Savannah breed standard in 1996 to present to the TICA. In 2001, the TICA finally accepted the breed and registered it as a new domesticated cat.
