Cats can bring happiness, humor and love into the lives of their owners. They are a part of the family and an important aspect of everyday life. So cat owners do their best to improve the health and happiness of their feline friends. They buy healthy food. They take them to the vet. But one somewhat less well-known tool for improving feline health is probiotics for cats.

Probiotics are microorganisms that live within an animal and provide a benefit for it. The health market has a lot of these products for human consumption. Some of the better known examples are yogurt, kefir, and kombucha, a black tea with fermented produce known to increase the immune response.

The first person to see microorganisms at work was Nobel Laureate Elie Metchnikoff. He discovered that some bacteria benefited the human digestive system and believed that we could slow aging by altering the acidity level in the colon through beneficial bacteria. He felt that it was harmful bacteria that caused the physical effects of aging. In 1953, physician Werner Georg Kollath, a major contributor to the whole foods field, did further research in this area and gave probiotics their name.

Probiotics have many benefits. As Mecthnikoff discovered, one is anti-aging. They are also useful in promoting effective digestion. Specifically they can aid the digestion of lactose, ease irritable bowel syndrome and help lessen diarrhea, particularly when antibiotics brought on the diarrhea. Other antibiotic side effects can also be prevented or stopped by using these products. Some other uses of probiotics include lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, aiding colon cancer care, inhibiting the growth of bacteria from stress, and lowering inflammation.

There are many probiotic formulas specifically formulated for the cat. Some feline formulas are used for the same ailments as formulas for humans. However, formulas effective for humans may not be effective for pets and a veterinarian should be consulted to choose a formula that is appropriate for a cat.

Cat probiotic supplements come in several forms. Each form can be effective in treating feline health issues. Some supplements come in the pill form. But since many cats will not take pills, there are other methods of formula administration. Some formulas come in powders or in liquids administered through a dropper. They can often be added to a cat’s food. If a cat is not agreeable to one form of a formula, the cat’s owners can simply choose another.

As with humans, one of the major uses of probiotic formulas for cats is digestive problems. Some formulas decrease gas and diarrhea. Antibiotic caused digestive issues are especially helped by probiotics. Other probiotic uses include stress alleviation, tooth decay prevention, slowing the aging process, immune support, and general improvement of a cat’s health.

Microorganisms can be effective in treating many different feline health issues. However, a veterinarian should always be consulted before making any major changes to a cat’s health regimen. With that being said, probiotics for cats may be an effective way to make a cat healthier and happier.

Many of us love cats but when we are around them, we are reduced to wheezing and sneezing. And some people find that while they may be affected by certain cat breeds, other breeds commonly referred to as hypo-allergenic breeds, do not create any adverse reaction in them at all.

Not all humans are allergic to cats and not everyone who is allergic to them is allergic to all types of cats. Scientists have managed to isolate the major types of allergens produced by cats. These mainly come from their urine and saliva, but are also found on their coats because of constant grooming.

Cat allergy symptoms range anywhere from mild to severe but are often prolonged if the person is not removed from the environment, or if the symptoms are not treated immediately. Some common cat allergy symptoms include:

Itching which will occur at a point on the skin where the cat came into contact with the person. Some people may get hives, depending on how serious their allergies are.

Hay fever which is a group of symptoms attributed to allergic reactions. They include itchy, watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, coughing and even sore throat. These symptoms usually start out as a runny nose and progress to a more serious sore throat if treatment is not given.

Asthma occurs as sort of an anaphylactic reaction. The allergens cause the release of histamine in the body which directly affects the lungs. In the lungs, histamine causes the constriction of the bronchioles and it causes an increase in the production of mucus. Both of these contribute to airway restriction with the resulting asthma condition.

There are 3 ways to rid yourself of these symptoms. One way is to get a vaccine which is typically given every cold and flu season. Another way is to take anti-histamines. A third way is to clean regularly and use air purifiers to remove allergens from the air.

Cat allergy symptoms start slowly but can last a long time if they aren’t treated. When you understand how your system is reacting to your feline friends, you can find a treatment that works best for you. Regular cleaning, purifying the air in your home and taking anti-histamines should allow you to enjoy your feline friend in comfort.

Are you like most other people who love the idea of a cat box that you never have to clean out but worried that it can’t possibly be that easy? Litter boxes are not a pleasant thing that cat owners have to endure if they want to keep a cat around many dislike them because they stink and are messy. Once you set up the cat genie system you don’t have a lot to worry about with this alternative to the litter box. This article is packed full of the pros and cons of the CatGenie system for those who may be considering making the change.

Cat litter is not only health hazard but also a nuisance. If you have allergies, asthma or problems with dust cat litter can be problematic for your health. It’s even possible to catch toxoplasmosis from litter, a parasitic disease that pregnant women are especially at risk for. The self cleaning abilities of the CatGenie do away with these health risks. For many this can make all the difference in whether or not they get to keep their cats.

Cat litter is not only unsanitary, it’s not healthy for cats or humans, which is why many veterinarians recommend CatGenie. Litter boxes are places where dust, parasites and germs can gather, so an automatic unit like CatGenie is a definite improvement. Cats can also be made ill if they swallow clumping cat litter because of the harmful materials used to produce it. CatGenie, on the other hand, uses harmless Washable Granules. That’s why CatGenie is a healthier alternative for cats, as well as humans.

There were some debates on our end about what all to include about CatGenie. Having so much to choose from actually can make things more interesting when you are researching information. What you can and should do is look for your self because we know there are other great sources on the net. You really are doing the right thing by pursuing additional information, so do continue. There are always options, and the path to finding the best ones is through accurate content.

Just like every other product on the market this one is not perfect either. In reality, hardly anything operates exactly the way it appears in an advertisement, commercial or sales video. Some people will complain about the granules being tracked out by their cat (Just like a litter box) or blown out by the cleaning mechanisms. Depending on your cat this might not be a problem but it’s something to be aware of. Naturally, when you use cat litter, that can also get tracked around your house, so that’s just something you have to deal with one way or another when you have a cat.

We’ve looked at many of the things people do and don’t like about CatGenie, which is, overall, a quite effective and one of a kind product. There’s a certain commitment involved with this product, both in terms of cost and installation, but it does give you a workable, long term cat litter alternative. You might be one of the CatGenie users who finds this to be as close to an ideal solution as is possible.

There will be unique issues when researching any subject and that is no less true with Catgenie. Nothing so out of the ordinary with that scenario; I guess it is just the nature of information on the net. However, with any type of challenge, bear in mind that you may need to slow the pace of things. Detailed descriptions with examples are available when you visit Catgenie.

A pet, whether a cat or a dog, brings comfort and a sense of relaxation at home. This article highlights some of the important considerations that one must follow in order to choose the best cat or dog.

A dog for a pet

Dogs are animals that have a natural need for socialization. Socializing with a dog should begin at an early age. Research dog breeds before purchasing one to be certain you have enough space for certain breeds. Keeping a dog as a pet for the first time will occasionally make you to wash your carpet or clean your compound. All you need to do is to give your dog pet ample time to learn how she can relieve herself in one specified place. The best and easy way to train a dog to relieve herself in a designated place is by using a crate.

There could, also be the extra expense of doggy daycare if you will need one. A puppy shouldn’t be left alone for an entire work day until he or she is 8 to 10 months old.

Pet cats

Many people would choose a cat over a dog any day. Cats don’t need near the running room as dogs do and they are quite comfortable without a lot of attention from their owners. A cat’s litter box will be a continuous chore to clean. The stench of the litter box is the biggest drawback of owning a cat.

What factors weigh most in choosing?

When choosing a pet, most people simply go with the animal they prefer to be around. Your daily routine might be the deciding factor in the decision between a dog or a cat. Cats can be better pets for people with busy work schedules. Doing proper research before purchasing a pet will greatly reduce the stress to you and your pet in the future.

Cats are so commonplace that we scarcely look at what they do and why they do it, but cat behaviour is quite an interesting subject actually, especially for cat owners and animal lovers.

Cats are so commonplace that we scarcely look at what they do and why they do it, but cat behaviour is quite an interesting subject actually, especially for cat owners and animal lovers.

Cat behaviour is usually taken to mean that of household cats, although they do share some characteristics with their larger wild relatives.

A cat’s behaviour for the most part depends on whether it is a lone cat or one of a number in a household. Cats are normally solitary animals just coming together to mate, although they will usually co-exist with other cats in a house, especially if they met while they were young or those that were introduced were kittens.

You might be problems of territorialism if you try to introduce an older cat into a house, where a different cat has been living for a while. This is equivalent to large cats, which have their hunting ground that they patrol and delineate with urine and faeces each day. Tom cats sometimes do this at home, much to the annoyance of their owners.

Rubbing has an equivalent meaning. A cat rubs with scent glands on its face to mark something as its own, especially territory, which is all cats actually worry about except food.

Kneading or knitting is another common mannerism in household cats, although it is not actually well understood.

One suggestion goes that domestic cats stay juveniles, never really growing up, so kneading is reminiscent of kneading its mother’s teats to encourage the flow milk. Others say that it is reminiscent of flattening grass to create a bed, but this does not seem to explain the ecstasy that cats seem to get from kneading.

We like to hear our cats purr because we perceive it as a sign of happiness, but is it? Well, it almost certainly is, but it probably comes from the fact that cats are born blind and, like most infants, fairly stupid, so the sound of mum purring almost certainly attracts the kittens to her for a feed. The ‘memory’ of this happy event almost certainly triggers purring in adult cats.

When a cat arches its back, it is almost certainly signalling to its aggressor that it is bigger than they think it is. It is also an attack stance. With its back arched, a cat can rear up in order to scratch a taller opponent, but it can also jump or run, whichever action is apposite. The hissing goes with arching to deter the antagonist.

Cats do not have a broad vocal range and, being nocturnal hunters, they have developed a great deal of ‘eye language’. For instance, if a cat is pleased, it’s eyes dilate – a bit like when humans look at their loved ones.

However, it also happens in cats whilst they are hunting, which means either that they enjoy that activity or that they have to get as much light as possible to see by.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on several topics, but is now concerned with feline distemper vaccination. If you want to know more, please visit our web site at Distemper Vaccines

It won’t be long before the Summer months are here again, which means it’s high time you get your dog prepared for these hot, sweltering months, if you haven’t done so yet. Most of the time, we as pet owners are generally not aware that by inviting our pets to join us for some fun and frolic in the outdoors (especially in Spring and Summer), we are also inviting fleas, ticks and other parasites to have their own kind of outdoor fun, which is anything but good and clean.

Every dog should be permanently protected from distemper, infectious hepatitis, and leptospirosis. These vaccines are now generally combined in one single inoculation. It would definitely be good if your dog has been given a rabies shot, as he should if six months and up. Getting a vaccine against rabies is valid for four years, which is much longer than the standard year for most other vaccines. Make it a point to have vaccines administered on your dog after the vaccine’s effectivity expires because if exposed to danger at this point, that shot from a year back or so would be utterly useless.

Annual revisits to your vet are necessary for your dog after the initial visit, and this would simply be to make sure his vaccines are still up to date. The following areas need to be covered by your veterinarian, so when you take your dog to his office, here are the checkups that need to be administered:

Dental checkup (including tartar removal) Anal checkup (expunging of any offensive content) Nails (includes nail clipping) Stool checkup (as your dog may have worms)

Female dogs, particularly the ones that are bred, need to be attended to more regularly than males. When you wish to travel with your dog, you will be prepared for any state, federal, or international requirement if you ask your vet for a certificate of good health, and make sure that his vaccinations are in order before you leave. If a dog is considered robust and free of disease, he should need no further veterinary care. Naturally, you should take your dog to the vet in the vent of accidents or if he gets sick.

As your dog ages and you familiarize yourself with his tendencies, you will soon find yourself discerning inconsequential symptoms, chronic, yet non life-threatening illnesses and telltale signs of serious disease. Here are some of the symptoms that would necessitate a trip to the vet:

Be wary of your dog’s temperature if it goes 99 or higher, and especially if it is higher than 102 – a fever of 100 degrees or less that lasts over a day would necessitate a visit.

Acute pain for which there is no logical explanation.

Blood in your dog’s urine.

Bloody stool on repeated instances.

Intermittent discharge of yellow mucus from nose or eyes.

Persistent vomiting, coughing, or refusal to ear for more than 24 hours

General symptoms or manifestations of illness.

Put your mind at ease with a visit to the vet, if only for the reason that a veterinarian is the only person truly qualified to discern whether there are any symptoms affiliated with each other that imply serious illness. Enjoy your summer!

Your efax promo code helps you save.

Undoubtedly, everyone knows just how important dental hygiene is. A lot of people today will take the time to have regular check ups at the dentist. Check ups are not so common with the likes of dogs, cats and other pets although some people will prefer to have their pets’ teeth checked every now and then. Most people will want to ensure that their animal is still as healthy as all the others, and therefore will be interested in a new product known as Plaque Attack, something which can help to reduce the build up of plaque on the animal’s teeth.

For the likes of dogs and cats, teeth are very important for a number of people. Dogs will use them in defense, if they happen to get into a fight and of course they will also be used for eating. Whilst cats tend to use their claws when defending themselves, biting tends to be another form of defense which can be incredibly useful and scare off their attackers.

Therefore good, strong and healthy teeth are going to be a top priority for all pet owners. Take a look around on the Internet to see where the best deals are when looking for the likes of Plaque Attack. A lot of the time, there will be the likes of discounts and other offers which are available, so it is important for the individual to keep an eye out for these.

Different pros and cons are going to be associated with products like this as well. People who might be considering their purchase will therefore need to take a good, long hard look at them before they decide to spend their money. Whilst Plaque Attack can be quite useful, it won’t do the full job of what a dental vet is able to do, so check ups will still be needed.

It is also going to be vital that one makes sure the use of this product is regular. Therefore one will need to make sure that it can be afforded regularly. Individuals will probably set aside a certain amount of money in order to make sure that their pets are kept in top shop. It can sometimes be expensive for people to use, however.

Another thing is that the pet themselves might not actually like Plaque Attack. Thankfully, over time they will get used to it but it is important to make sure that they are trained into it properly. Getting used to something, for any animal, is always going to be a challenge and therefore this is could possibly cause certain problems to arise.

Thankfully, the likes of gum disease can be prevented if one takes precautions. Whilst it is important that regular check ups are made, this spray can help in the fight against germs and other agents which cause the teeth to rot. Gum disease can be very uncomfortable for anyone, human or animal, and therefore steps can be taken to prevent it.

Both organic and non-toxic, Plaque Attack can also help in the prevention of it forming in the first place. Therefore it is vital that one makes sure it is used regularly. This product, available on the market, is of course going to be entirely up to the owners themselves.

You can find details about the reasons why you should invest in a dental spray for your pet and information about Plaque Attack Triple Care Dental Spray on our site at http://plaqueattack.org now.

Imagine the horror one probably feels down his/her spine while taking an innocuous walk down a dog food aisle. Think of the shivers that run down your spine as you are overwhelmed by a multitude of brands and varieties. Pet food is big business these days, and you can bet America’s manufacturers of pet food want your money and attention in the worst way possible. But how would you make the right decision and settle on the best food for your dog?

There are several factors to consider when choosing the right food for your dog. The nutritional needs of dogs would vary, and a lot would depend on their age, the body type, level of fitness, etc. We have whittled down the list of considerations to the most fundamental, so read on and stop your weeping.

Your dog’s age. Puppies are pretty much like toddlers and young children – if you have kids, you know that their nutritional needs differ from an adult’s and so does a puppy when compared to adult dogs. Older adult dogs do not have the same requirements as younger adult dogs. When selecting dog food, you want to buy a food type that is just right for your dog’s age or stage in life.

Health. Does your canine companion have a pre-existing condition to consider? Be aware of the adjustments you would need to make in light of this condition when choosing dog food. Mistake ‘em not, dogs are not allergic to cats, baths and rats – they are allergic to a lot of different things, and you want to consider these things when buying dog food, and also buy low glucose food for diabetic canines. If you still have difficulty choosing the right food, then by all means ask your veterinarian for his expert advice.

Body Type, Size or Lack Thereof. Some dogs are overweight. Also, some dogs are anorexically thin. Some have a natural tendency to get lots of exercise while others tend to prefer to lie around a lot. There are, of course, small, medium, and large dogs as well as the ultra-tiny “toy” dogs. All of these different types of dogs will have different requirements for the type of food they need as well as how much of it.

Your Finances. Come on, admit it – you have earmarked a good part of your pet budget for dog food. And where dog food is concerned, the rule really is “you get what you pay for.” You may opt to skimp by buying some generics or in-house store brands, but while these may keep your wallet fat and happy, the same won’t apply to your dog due to the lack of nutritional value derived from bargain-basement ingredients and fillers. If you really want a happy, healthy pet, you want to buy the best dog food money can buy.

Once you take these factors into consideration, you should be able to narrow down your search for the ideal food for your best friend.

Eager and willing to do the right thing are puppies. Your happy face and the squealing noises that you make are what they love when they did something great. They will do ANYthing to please you because of the loving rewards they get from being a Good Dog. They just cannot get enough of your praises and cuddles.

Moving towards “What a good dog!” from “Bad Puppy!” is based on one thing. The minute that your puppy knows what he wants, he will do it but remember that your puppy doesn’t know the English language and it will be better for all if he learns it fast. In order to make it faster and easier for him to learn, try to keep these tips in mind:

Being consistent is important when it comes to the words you choose to teach him commands. If you say, “Wanna go potty?” in the morning, and “Have to go out?” two hours later, and “Wanna go pee?” two hours later, etc., then that is THREE phrases you have asked him to learn in one day instead of only one. Decide which words to use, and make sure everyone in your family uses the same ones.

Use his name in the command if you want action, do NOT use it if you want him restricted from action. This is very important. When a puppy hears his own name, then by his very nature it makes him leap into action. When you want your puppy to come, say, “Puppy, Come!” [insert his name instead of the word Puppy, of course] Simply tell him “down” if you want your puppy to lie down.

Try to avoid confusing your puppy with the same words for different commands. If basic obedience is what you are teaching him, then the word “Down” means LIE down, usually followed by “Stay.” If you don’t want him on the couch, then say “off” instead of saying “down.” You can use this word to keep him from jumping onto the couch, jumping up into your lap, or jumping to bed or chair it is the action of jumping up that you are trying to restrict. Saying “Down” when he jumps onto the couch will just make him lie down on the couch! See the difference now?

Hitting your puppy is a big no-no and there’s no need for it anyway. Your sad frown and you walking away from him is the worst punishment he ever needs to learn a lesson. One or two minutes is the limit though, do not overdo this. After a minute of ignoring him, you can then give him a command that he knows well and give him lots of praises and don’t forget to smile.

Use these three tips with gentleness and consistency so that your puppy will learn all the words he needs to know to be a happy and obedient companion in a matter of days.

It’s important for us to pay attention to our feline friends as they grow older. Just like people, they will have different needs as they age. They may require assistance or help that they didn’t need before.

Eating Habits

You may feel that buying commercial cat food labeled for seniors is all that’s necessary. But if you compare adult and senior food labels, you’ll find there are hardly any differences.

Cats need a good balance between high-moisture fresh or canned food and dry food.

Another important element of aging is weight. When felines stop running around and jumping from one piece of furniture to another, they don’t burn as many calories. This means that you need to make adjustments in the quantity of food you’re providing. Obesity is a serious concern!

Supplements

When it comes to supplements for aging cats, there are differences of opinion. The proper diet may offer all the vitamins and minerals that the cat needs but how can we be sure we are providing our cat with the right balance of vitamins and minerals?

A wise choice is to add a nutritional supplement containing enzymes, probiotics and antioxidants to your cat’s food. These additives can be helpful for aging cats for generally the same reasons that they benefit people.

A favorite supplement is probiotics which help your cat absorb nutrients more efficiently and aid in proper elimination of by-products, thus promoting gastrointestinal health. They also provide a stronger immune system that is better able to fight off degenerative diseases.

In addition to probiotics, antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, CoQ10, and alphalipoic acid help stave off degenerative diseases such as arthritis and cancer and help support brain function.

Elderly cats are prone to constipation so extra bran could be helpful. Increased glucosamine could help with arthritis while antioxidants will offer overall protection against aging. If your cat is having certain health problems, your veterinarian may recommend specific supplements.

If you notice that your cat is not eating as much as he should or has digestive problems, he should benefit from adding supplements to his diet.

Dehydration is Dangerous

Older cats need water available to them in several places around the house. Elderly cats are susceptible to dehydration but a cat with arthritis may not make the effort to walk through several rooms to get to the water bowl.

A Little Help Please

If you notice that your older cat is no longer jumping down from the bed or that he no longer tries to get up to that sunny window he loves to sleep in, it may be take to give him some help. Cat stairs or a ramp can offer the help he needs to still enjoy his favorite places.

The key about health problems in aging cats is early detection and being aware of the things you may be able to help them with. Felines are vulnerable to a long list of minor and serious health concerns. One good practice is to take the time for wellness visits rather than waiting until there is a visible problem. The important thing to know is gaining the awareness of what you can do to help!
